Sleeping Diagonally

I needed to run to Target yesterday before picking up Matthew from school, so I packed Ingy up in the car and we headed out. As we got closer to the store I noticed Ingrid's eyes were starting to get droopy. Despite my best efforts to keep her awake, she fell asleep just as we pulled in the parking lot. I carried her to a cart and began my quick shopping trip. For a while I thought she was just resting her head, but when I saw the drool I knew she was sound asleep!

She stayed like this the entire 20 minutes we were there. You'd think she would wake up when I pulled her out of the cart and put her back in her car seat, but no. She was one tired girl!

They Want To Hold My Hand

So I've been a terrible blogger these days, but I really can't help it. I've been busy getting hit on. Yep, apparently I'm quite the hot commodity these days. ;) Last week I was at the gas station and this guy comes up to demonstrate the product he was selling. I told him the van wasn't mine and that in fact, I don't own a car, so he didn't need to show me anything. He then asks about my two kids (he saw the car seats). I explained that I was a nanny, I don't have any kids. Then he went off.
"Well that is good news because I thought man she has two kids so she has to have a man and I won't have the chance to take her out to dinner and get to know her better . . . What's your favorite food? . . . I could send you some or what I'd rather do is take you out, get to know you, I just need your number . . . I can tell you're a good person, I can see it in your eyes . . . Yada, yada, yada." It was pretty funny because he didn't appear to be my "type" at all, but it generally makes you feel better about yourself when someone shows interest, so I'll take it.


The other time was a few nights before that. Spencer and I got dressed up and went into DC for dinner. It was a beautiful day, so we wanted to sit outside. While we were waiting for a table I decided to go to the restroom. This is where the second interaction took place. That's right my friends, in the women's restroom. Here's how it went down. One of the paper towel dispensers was out of paper towels and I was washing my hands next to the working one. A girl reached across my chest (almost touching) to get a towel. Another girl in the room commented on how close she was and the reaching one replies in an overly friendly tone, "Oh don't worry, she doesn't mind!" Then her friend starts talking to me about her sunglasses (keep in mind it's night time)and how she looks. Again, overly friendly. I said that I probably wouldn't wear them, better safe than sorry. Then she says, "better safe than sorry? Ha! Better sorry than safe! Where are you from???" I wish I would have said Utah! And then walked away, but instead I gave a half laugh and made a point of getting out of the restroom before she did. I went back outside and told Spencer what had happened and we both got a good laugh out of it. And really, how many people can say they got hit on in the restroom? Hopefully not many, it's weird . . . :)

Just As Well

I'm in the process of working on a "covers" . . . I know there are a bunch out there that I love, but I've been having trouble remembering them. I was sitting at the computer when all of the sudden it hit me! Nickel Creek. I saw this performed live on their Farewell (For Now) Tour, May 2007 at Abravanel Hall, and it was awesome! I searched for the best quality video and this is what I found . . .

It's Been A Year

Just over a year ago, April 5th to be exact, I went to the Hotel Cafe Tour at the Avalon in Salt Lake. It was easily one of my favorite concerts and I can't wait until they do another one, hopefully this fall. Anyway I asked everyone I knew if they wanted to come and no one was up for it, so I went by myself. I'd gone to a Joshua Radin show alone before and it was a great experience, so I figured I'd try it again. I got there early because I'm a fan of the first few rows, I don't care how long I'm standing for, it's a different experience. As I was waiting I tried to start up conversation with the people behind me. They weren't too interested in chatting, so I gave up. Then a kid in front of me turned around and asked who I was there to see, Cary Brothers or Ingrid Michaelson? This sparked a discussion about the artists we love and then it carried over into other things. We ended up standing togther at the show and having a great time. I got one of their email addresses so I could send them the pictures I took. Thank goodness, because this enabled us to keep in touch. I found both Brian and Trent on myspace (Trent may have found me, I don't remember). Then when Ingrid Michaelson came back through town two months later they both came up and we went together. Trent and I went to a Joshua Radin concert before I moved to DC and he's come up to visit when I've been home. Brian was in DC last fall for a school thing and I was able to meet up with him as well. Who would have thought that it'd last this long??? Happy Anniversary pals!

Almost

So March was not as successful as January and February were in the giving something up department. I decided to give up eating in my room. I tend to do unnecessary munching in my room or I decide to be lazy and not go upstairs to get breakfast on the weekend and end up eating three granola bars, not the best idea one could have . . . I didn't blow it by any means, but I just didn't hit 100% like January and February. It's alright though, I still feel good about it. Up this month, no eating in the car! Something I absolutely don't need to do, so I'm kind of excited about trying this out. Strange but true.

All these things have to do with food, maybe I should just give up eating . . . If only that would solve the problem! Don't worry, I am only kidding about the no food thing. Besides, even if it were possible, I'd just be opening a whole new can of worms no one wants to deal with. ;)

Amateur

This post is long overdue! About two or so months ago Karen (Matt and Ingrid's mom) mentioned that Matty wanted a Death Star pinata for his Star Ward birthday party and asked if she thought Spencer and I could figure out how to make one. I said sure, despite the fact that I'd never seen Star Wars nor did I have a clue what the Death Star was . . . I had some sort of recollection of Spencer doing a paper mache in college, so we wouldn't be completely in the dark. It was a little time consuming but easier than one might expect. We had so much fun that we have a few other paper mache projects lined up. :)

In My Own Eyes

I have now had Pink Eye four times in less than a month. It's not the worst infection that a person can have, but it sure is annoying! Especially when you give it to yourself! How does one give them self pink eye you ask? Let me explain. First you contract the bacteria from some outside source. (I'm not sure where I picked this up the first time, but I did). Then you go to the doctors to get yourself some eye drops or cream as the case may be. Everything clears up and you think you're home free. Except for a week later when you wake up with your eyes crusted shut and realize you must have used your make-up too soon. This is when you clean everything out, get new brushes, etc and think you're fine . . . but you're not. You wake up with pink eye for the third time in two weeks. You get serious and replace everything you could have possibly used in those goopy eye days. Things are going great it's been almost two weeks since you've been hit with an infection. You're slightly annoyed because you've just spent so much money replacing your make up, but what do you do? You get over it. Until you wake up a fourth time to find that you'll need help from a warm wash cloth before you can fully open your eyes. Not fun!!!

A word to the wise. If you ever get pink eye, don't wear make-up for at least a week! It doesn't matter if you're not contagious any more, wait. When you think it's gone get disposable applicators, put them in your make up only one time, apply, then throw away. Do this for a few days, just to be safe. Trust me, the package of applicators will cost a whole lot less than replacing your entire make-up supply!
